If you are serious about ancient Bagan archaeology you can spend many days and weeks
exploring the temples and monuments one by one. For most first time visitors it is
about 2 to 3 days for Bagan and around.
Bagan is not just its thousands of old temples and pagodas. There are a lot more to
see around the area. Here are only some of them.
Tent Kyi hills on the western bank of Ayeyarwaddy river. There are also equally old
temples on the hill-top. Day return trip are possible from Bagan side.
Mt. Popa extinct volcano. In addition to its volcanic cone shape hill with pagodas and spirit houses,
trekking to its very top (1535 meters) is a good outdoor exercise. On a clear weather day good views
are possible
Pakhangyi and Paokokku and around. Go there by boat and car for real Myanmar country side
towns and villages with old monasteries.

Plan 1 for first timer to Myanmar
Day 1: Arrival Yangon and tour of the city. There are many hotels to select from
Day 2: Take a flight to Mandalay - the second largest city
Day 3: You may definitely need a second day in Mandalay
Day 4: Take a public boat down the Ayeyarwaddy river to Bagan, it takes nearly whole day
Day 5: Start exploring the Bagan and surrounding places
Day 6: Another day for more better photo shoots and excursions
Day 7: Fly to Heho and car and boat transfer to a hotel at Inle lake - Southern Shan state
Day 8: Excurson on and around Inle lake
Day 9: Another day on the lake
Day 10: Flight to Yangon and city sightseeing

Plan 2 - a bit adventure style for 4 to 6 people private group that includes nature walk to the mountain in Chin state
In addition to Bagan and Ayeyarwaddy river, this trip will give you experience of
traveling on not very good roads, even dirt tracks, lined with
paddy fields and other plantation, villages and small towns, hills, lakes, streams and
forests; life style of ordinary people, elephant timber camp; and less visited minority
tribal state of Chin people.
It also includes a nature walk which is easy to moderate level in the Southern
Chin hills to the summit of Mt. Victoria peak. Best time to do this trip is from
October to February.

Day 9: Walking to Mt. Voctoria (Nat Ma Taung) at 10500 feet (3100 meters). Camping
Day 10: Walk down the southern trail and village home stay or use a mountain lodge
Day 11: Jeep transfer (whole day) to Chauk and back to Bagan
Day 12: Relax and take rest at a hotel with Ayeyarwaddy river view
Day 13: Take a flight back to Yangon
Day 14: Flight home
